The RGS-IBG


Licence Agreement between the Royal Geographical Society (with The Institute of British Geographers) and subscribers to its journals

The Royal Geographical Society (with The Institute of British Geographers) (hereafter RGS- IBG) will license the electronic access of their journals on the terms and conditions set out in this Agreement. The rights granted under this Agreement apply only to those journals for which the Licensee has a current paid subscription.

  1. Copyright
    (a) The contents of the journals are protected by the RGS-IBG copyright. Each individual article published in the journal is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.
    (b) Subject to the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, the use of material supplied by the RGS-IBG is limited to viewing, downloading, temporary storage and printing one copy of the individual article by authorised users for personal use only.

  2. Access
    (a) Online access is currently available only in conjunction with print subscription to the same title. Rights granted under this agreement cannot be transferred, sold or rented to another party.
    (b) This licence prohibits the use of public caching servers, proxy servers, firewalls or similar.
    (c) Once access has been enabled no refund can be given on any part of the subscription price, subject to Section 6 below.

  3. Licensee's responsibilities
    The Licensee is responsible for charges associated with accessing the journal such as computer equipment and internet access.

  4. Liability
    (a) The RGS-IBG has taken reasonable care to ensure that data in the journal available through this service are error free and up to date. However, the RGS-IBG accepts no responsibility for corruption to the data including, but not limited to, any defects caused by the transmission of the data.
    (b) The RGS-IBG is using a third-party service to provide electronic access to the journal. The RGS-IBG accepts no responsibility for any defect, failure in or non-availability of the service.

  5. Termination
    (a) The RGS-IBG may terminate or suspend electronic access for breach of this licence by the institution or any user.
    (b) The RGS-IBG may terminate electronic access if its agreement with the third-party service terminates for any reason. However, the RGS-IBG will use reasonable endeavours to find an alternative third-party service. If the RGS-IBG is unable to do so within a reasonable period, the RGS-IBG will refund a fair proportion of the subscription fee reflecting (i) that part of the subscription which is attributable to the electronic access service; and (ii) the unexpired period of the subscription.

  6. General
    In the event of a disagreement over the interpretation of the contents of this agreement which cannot be otherwise settled, both parties shall abide by the decision of an arbitrator appointed under the provisions of a court of competent jurisdiction.

  7. Acceptance
    In downloading this document, I agree to abide by the terms of the Licence Agreement.
